A local woman helps our heroes by raising £10,000 in one night

A Chesterfield woman managed to raise over £10,000 in one night for the Help for Heroes charity, which supports injured soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

The charity ball was held on 4th May 2012 at Casa Hotel by local resident, Lynn Jones, who chose Help for Heroes because her best friend’s husband is a Colour Sergeant in the Mercian Regiment and has served two tours in Afghanistan.

“I visited Casa for a friend’s wedding and knew it was the ideal venue for the charity ball. I contacted local and national businesses for auction and raffle prizes so we could make the event as memorable as possible and it really paid off. I never imagined we’d raise so much for Help for Heroes, which is such a worthy cause, and I’m over the moon.”

The impressive prizes included: Hire of a private villa with a pool in Cyprus, an Apple iMac, an overnight stay at the Devonshire Arms Bolton Abbey with the use of an Audi R8, hire of an apartment in Spain and a Mercedes SLK for one weekend.

Stuart Downham, Operations Director at Casa, said: “Congratulations to Lynn on raising such an impressive amount for charity. It was well worth all of the hard work and we were honoured that Lynn chose Casa to host the event.”

Lynn would like to thank everyone who helped organise the event and to all the people who attended and helped raise such a fantastic amount.

Notes to Editor:

Help for Heroes

Help for Heroes was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in October 2007 out of a desire to help the wounded Servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. The message of the charity is simple: We are strictly non political and non critical; we simply want to help. We believe that anyone who volunteers to serve in time of war, knowing that they may risk all, is a hero. These are ordinary people doing extraordinary things and some of them are living with the consequences of their service for life. We may not be able to prevent our soldiers from being wounded, but together we can help them get better.

Help for Heroes is a Company limited by Guarantee
Registered in England and Wales under number 6363256.
