More travellers than ever are looking for accommodation that reflects their values. Whether you’re planning a leisure break, business trip, conference or celebration, choosing a Green Tourism accredited venue can help you make more responsible travel choices while still enjoying exceptional comfort, service and hospitality.
At CASA Hotel, sustainability is embedded into how we do business. As an independent four-star hotel in Chesterfield, we are committed to creating outstanding guest experiences while making considered choices that support our people, our local community and the environment.
For guests seeking a more sustainable place to stay, meet, dine or celebrate, we are proud to have achieved both Green Tourism Bronze and Green Meetings Bronze accreditation.
These independently assessed awards recognise the positive steps we are taking across our hotel, restaurant, meetings and events spaces. They reflect our commitment to responsible hospitality and give guests, businesses and event organisers confidence that sustainability is an important part of our decision-making.
As our owner, Steve Perez, explains:
“This is a journey and a balancing act, but if we make as many steps as we can, in every decision we make, towards building a sustainable business, we will continue to do what we can to be the best we can.”
For environmentally conscious travellers and organisations, these accreditations demonstrate that sustainability is not simply an ambition at CASA Hotel. It is something we are actively working towards every day.
Our Green tourism Bronze Award demonstrates that our sustainability efforts have been reviewed against recognised industry standards. The accreditation looks at how businesses care for people, places and the planet, helping organisations identify strengths and opportunities for improvement.
Alongside this, our Green Meetings Bronze accreditation recognises our commitment to delivering more sustainable meetings, conferences and events. For event organisers, it provides confidence that sustainability is being considered throughout the guest experience.
These achievements are important milestones, but they are only part of our wider sustainability journey.
Across the hotel we are continuing to invest in practical measures that help reduce our environmental footprint while maintaining the high standard and quality that guests keep coming back for.
Energy-efficient lighting, appliances and motion sensors help reduce unnecessary energy consumption, while our heating and cooling systems are designed to maximise efficiency. We have also invested in a new central heat processing plant to help minimise energy waste.
Water conservation is another important focus. Water-saving fixtures are installed throughout the hotel, and guests are encouraged to participate in our towel and linen reuse programme during their stay.
We are also working hard to reduce waste by increasing recycling, minimising landfill and reducing our reliance on single-use plastics. Initiatives such as bulk toiletries and more sustainable alternatives help us make small changes that collectively have a meaningful impact.
For many travellers, sustainability extends to the food and drink they enjoy during their stay.
Our chefs design menus around seasonal and locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. This supports local farmers and suppliers, reduces food miles and helps showcase the quality produce available across Derbyshire and the surrounding region.
We are proud to work with local suppliers, including produce from our own Walton Lodge Farm Estate, alongside a range of trusted regional businesses. More than 90% of our produce comes from within the UK, with much of it sourced locally.
By working with suppliers who share our values and demonstrate strong sustainability standards, we aim to build a responsible and resilient supply chain while supporting local businesses.
At CASA Hotel, sustainability is not just about protecting the environment. It is also about supporting people and contributing positively to the local community.
We work closely with local charities, schools, associations and tourism organisations, including Visit Peak District & Derbyshire and Destination Chesterfield. Through work placements and educational partnerships, we are proud to help create opportunities for people looking to develop careers within hospitality.
Our team is at the heart of everything we do. Across CASA Hotel and Peak Edge Hotel, we provide more than 200 local jobs and continue to invest in employee wellbeing through enhanced holiday entitlement, healthcare support, competitive pay and staff benefits.
By supporting our people, suppliers and local partners, we can help create a positive impact that extends beyond our hotel doors.
Our sustainability journey is ongoing. Alongside our Carbon Reduction Plan, we remain committed to improving energy efficiency, reducing our carbon footprint and exploring future renewable energy opportunities.
Achieving Green Tourism Bronze and Green Meetings Bronze marks an important step forward, but we know there is always more to do. We will continue to use the feedback from our Green Tourism assessments to guide future improvements and help us identify new opportunities to strengthen our sustainability performance.
